CIRSE

The Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) is a non-profit making, educational and scientific association aiming to improve patient care through the support of teaching, science, research and clinical practice in the field of cardiovascular and interventional radiology.

CIRSE’s mission is to provide continuing education and training for its members, and support the development of interventional radiology through a wide variety of initiatives. CIRSE is the most representative IR society worldwide, with around 10,000 members and over 50 national and regional societies as group members. CIRSE organises the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) examination, based on the European Curriculum and Syllabus for Interventional Radiology, as well as subspecialty certifications. CIRSE also contributes to research in IR as the scientific sponsor of a number of clinical studies and sets standards through the production of Standard of Practice documents and the creation of the International Accreditation System for Interventional Oncology Services (IASIOS).

The main educational events organised by CIRSE include the CIRSE Annual Congress, the European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO), the European Conference on Embolotherapy (ET), the International Conference on Complications in Interventional Radiology (ICCIR) as well as courses of the European School of Interventional Radiology. Online education offers include the CIRSE Library, the largest online learning portal in IR, the CIRSE Academy and CIRSE webinars.

CIRSE is governed by the CIRSE Executive Board and has its registered office in Vienna, Austria.

Role in the project

With CIRSE’s unique network of Interventional Radiologists worldwide, and our expertise in the development of training and education formats, CIRSE will contribute to SHERPA as a partner in work packages 5 (PROMOTE), 1 (FRAME) and 6 (ORGANISE). In work package 5, CIRSE will be the task leader for the education and training of healthcare professionals, designing and delivering a high-quality education and training programme through different webinars and face-to-face training workshops. In work packages 1 and 6, CIRSE will support the work package leaders with our expertise and wide reach in the IR community.
